Give your body the attention it deserves post-pregnancy!
We provide Mummy MOT for women who are at least 6 weeks postpartum in Winchester. After having a baby, up to 50% of all women experience weakness or dysfunction of their abdominals and pelvic floor muscles. As a result, those suffering weakness and/or dysfunction report back and pelvic girdle pain, urinary incontinence, ‘tummy gap’ and more.
What’s more, these symptoms don’t always present themselves immediately and can take several months or even years to present.
Our Mummy MOT service is delivered by specialist physiotherapist, Sophie Schryver at our Romsey clinic, Romsey Physio & Health. Whilst we are not currently offering this service in Winchester, why not take advantage of our Romsey team for this specialist service. Sophie will then hand-over a detailed report to our Romsey team who will guide you back to a full return to fitness, whether it’s physio led rehab or reformer pilates with Emily.
What is a Mummy MOT?
The Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal assessment for women 6 weeks or more after birth — whether via vaginal delivery or C-section. It combines a full musculoskeletal and pelvic health screen, helping identify causes of:
- Back or pelvic pain
- Diastasis recti (‘tummy gap’)
- Urinary incontinence
- Pelvic floor dysfunction
Your session includes a detailed history, movement screening, abdominal and pelvic floor assessment, and a personalised recovery plan. An internal vaginal examination is offered but always optional.
What happens during a Mummy MOT appointment?
A full, standard MSK screening, observing the way your body moves including lumbar spine, hips and other important areas beyond just your pelvis!
- An assessment of your abdominal strength… what’s overactive and/or underactive?
- Pelvic floor examination including an internal vaginal assessment to understand the mechanics of your pelvic function (you can opt out of this part of the assessment if you choose)
- An individualised post-natal recovery plan… based around your chosen goals
- Further treatment options will be discussed at your first appointment, to see whether we can support and accelerate your recovery beyond home exercise
When should I consider a Mummy MOT appointment?
- Guidelines suggest that at 6 weeks post-partum, you are ready to kick start your pelvic health recovery. However, it is never too late, so if you are experiencing symptoms or would now like to explore your pelvic health further, then book an appointment to discuss your needs
Will I have to remove clothing as part of the appointment?
- As standard, the Mummy MOT includes an internal vaginal assessment, therefore you would be asked to remove the bottom half of your clothing. However, if you opt out of this part of the assessment, then you would not be required to remove any clothing
